1.       Diabetes:

This damage can be observed even before vision is affected.

When diabetic retinopathy is detected, you’ll typically have laser treatments and medications to repair blood vessels. However, you may need surgery if the bleeding is severe enough.

In the early stages of diabetic retinopathy, you may not experience any vision changes, but your Retina Specialist will be able to diagnose the disease by careful examination of your retina.

 

2.       Heart Conditions:

In some cases, heart conditions associated with a build-up of plaque in the carotid artery in the heart can also lead to deposits that block the ocular arteries in the eye. If your eye specialist detects such changes in the tiny blood vessels at the back of the eye, he or she will typically recommend going to a specialist. Hence early intervention can be planned.

 

3.       High Blood Pressure:

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a very common disease and has different manifestations in the eye depending on the severity and duration of the disease. In very severe hypertension, there are characteristic findings in the eye, including swelling of the optic nerve and bleeding in the retina.

4.       Autoimmune Disorders:

While there are many autoimmune disorders that involve the eye, the focus in this section is on rheumatoid arthritis. The most common eye problem associated with this condition is dry eye, which can be severe, and is related to insufficient tears.

 

5.       Cancer:

Cancer commonly metastasizes to the eye. The most typical intraocular metastases arise from breast or lung cancers, but they can be related to brain tumors, as well.
